Laurie B. Grunebaum, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist licensed in New York and Connecticut with over 25 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues. She treats adolescents, adults, couples and families. She has specialized expertise in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, developmental trauma, event trauma, and early adult to later adult developmental issues/life transitions, including adoption, infertility, pregnancy, parenting, divorce, women’s sexual health and menopause.
She is integrative in her approach to treatment. This means that she uses all theoretical orientations and interventions uniquely tailored to the needs of each patient. This individualized approach helps each person take control over debilitating symptoms, feelings, and self-defeating patterns that hold them back from living satisfying emotional, social and professional lives. She has done research in the area of attachment theory, which informs her clinical practice. This is particularly important, as insecure attachment is a major source of relationship issues in adulthood for adoptees as well as all adults.
Dr. Grunebaum received her doctorate from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York and completed her clinical internship and Fellowship at the Payne Whitney Clinic of NY- Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She maintains a private practice with offices in New Haven, CT and Westport, CT, and Supervises Psychology Trainees as a clinical faculty for the Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
