Originally a pediatrician in Boston, Massachusetts, Steven L. Nickman, MD is a psychiatrist with decades of clinical experience evaluating and treating adopted children, adolescents, and adults and their families. He was one of the first authors in the clinical field to focus on losses in adoption, and co-founded the Adoption and Foster Care Committee of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. During the years he was affiliated with the child psychiatry department at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, he co-chaired the Multi-Disciplinary Adoption Study Group. He is one of the authors in the forthcoming Routledge Handbook in the Clinical Treatment of Adopted Adolescents and Young Adults (due in 2021).
