A Unique Resource for Adoption-Informed Residential Treatment
Announcing Northstar’s affiliation as consultants for the Yellowbrick Treatment Program
We are pleased to announce Northstar’s affiliation as clinical consultants for the Yellowbrick Treatment Program in Evanston, Illinois (just north of Chicago). Yellowbrick is the only psychiatric residential treatment program in the U.S. that offers in-depth, adoption-knowledgeable treatment for adopted young adults (ages 17-30).
Doris Bertocci, LCSW, who has extensive experience with crisis intervention in the context of ps psychiatric emergencies and college mental health, serves as liaison with Yellowbrick.
The Yellowbrick Program should be distinguished from all other residential treatment programs in the country because of the thoroughness with which they address medical and neuropsychological problems, and because the treatment staff consists of very advanced clinicians in several disciplines. The combination of their psychodynamic orientation and their knowledge of the Psychology of Being Adopted makes them unique among all intensive treatment/residential programs. In addition to all of the adoption-related information that they can help the adopted person understand and work with in treatment, they are also expert at working with all that is “behind” or “beneath” what the patient is consciously aware of – “hidden” parts of their lives that contribute significantly to their emotional difficulties. In adopted persons especially, this can include trauma-derived loss of memory, confusion around sexual concerns and reproduction, and long-standing feelings of not being understood — perhaps especially by their previous therapists. Family treatment and groups for adopted young adults are also significant components of the program.
